Yalumba Coonawarra Barossa Shiraz 2004 (“around $20″)

The power of Barossa shiraz takes on the class and structure of Coonawarran cabernet and drinkers are the winner. Opens up smelling essentially Coonawarran with plenty of mintiness but with time, the minty bouquet evolves into something quite seductive as aromas of spice, raisin and dark chocolate swirl in and out of each other. Deliciously fine and juicy in the mouth with succulent blackcurrant and dark cherry flavours that finish long and succulent. It’s a tidy little package and delicious interpretation of the classic Aussie red blend that does little to tarnish Yalumba’s reputation for quality at all price points. I don’t see this around a lot but I wish I did. A great gift from some dinner friends and good value at the price (“around 20 bucks,” was the amount paid). www.yalumba.com.au

Max! I can comment!

It seems that when you aren’t posting your poker stories for us to read, you get multiple wine reviews up. I hope this doesn’t mean you’re getting bad hands and resorting to the bottle to cope with the depression! :P

Haha yeah something like that! Finding time to catch up with wine reviews when work isn’t hammering away is the key my friend – but funny you should mention bad hands becaus I’m in the middle of a big downswing at the moment.

When you hold 44 and get someone holding A5o to get it all in on a flop of 5-4-10 only to be beaten by a 5 on the turn and ace on the river, you know it’s not your time.

Giving the online cards a break for a few days so look forward to a slew of wine reviews on here and EatingWA and DrinkingWA!
